Assistant General Manager

Welcome to the MEF International School community! I hope that you find all the information you need about our school in the pages of this website.

I am thrilled to be starting my first year as the head of MEF International Schools. As a resident of Istanbul, a native of Izmir, and an educator long involved with international education, I have always held MEF IS in high esteem and I am honoured to be a part of this remarkable team. MEF IS is justifiably proud of the recognition it has received from various accrediting bodies, including the International Baccalaureate Organization, University of Cambridge International Exams, the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, all of whom have exacting standards to keep us on our toes! Our students, teachers, and parents partner together to achieve exceptional academic success and prepare for top universities worldwide.

More than these achievements, I am excited to be a part of an educational institution whose members are continuously seeking to give young people the best education they can get. We do this by constantly reminding ourselves what teaching needs to be in order for students to maximize their learning and achieve their full potential. We strongly believe, for example, that students must feel safe in and out of the classroom so that they can take personal and intellectual risks and learn from their missteps as much as from their successes. We believe that all students, regardless of their backgrounds or preferred learning styles, have much to contribute to the group; therefore, we develop skills of collaboration and communication to prepare all students to be members of an increasingly connected and interactive world. We believe that true learning and the development of creativity happens when what is learned from books and classrooms is given meaning through real-life application. In our international, globally-minded community - in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities - we want young learners to achieve their academic goals and to develop into creative, caring world citizens. Our world can seem like a troubled place, especially in recent times, and perhaps more than ever we need young people who understand what it means to “Build Bridges between Countries and Cultures”.

There are many ways that education at MEF IS challenges, engages, and fulfills our students’ natural, human need to learn. If you do not have your questions answered by what you find in this website, please do not hesitate to call us or write to us. Or better yet, come for a visit! We’d love to show you around.

Best wishes for the 2016-2017 school year,
