Cranes

Our secondary school students at MEF IS Istanbul folded 1000 cranes, each of which represent a good wish according to an old Japanese custom. It became very popular through the story of Sadako Sasaki who was a victim of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. She folded 1000 cranes in hopes of beating leukemia, but unfortunately she died. Her cranes have become a symbol of peace and often people around the world leave cranes in places that have seen war and need healing. Our cranes are a wish for peace in Turkey and the world.
